PayPal to Naira in 2026: The Crypto Route That Works

· Updated · 3 min read

Short answer: Where PayPal lets its users transfer crypto to outside wallets (mainly in the US at the time of writing), your sender can buy a coin such as Bitcoin or Litecoin in their PayPal app and send it to your deposit address for that same coin in KWIQ. You then sell it for naira with zero conversion fees and withdraw to any Nigerian bank account. Only send coins the KWIQ app lists, on the network shown with your address.

"Do you have PayPal?" It's often the first thing a foreign client or a cousin in America asks. And for many Nigerians, the honest answer is "yes, but it can't receive money".

You don't have to lose the payment, or the client, over that. There's a route that works today for many senders in the US: PayPal's crypto feature.

Why this works

PayPal lets eligible users, mainly in the US at the time of writing, buy a handful of cryptocurrencies inside the PayPal app and transfer them to an outside wallet. That outside wallet can be yours on KWIQ. Once the crypto arrives, you sell it for naira.

The person paying you stays inside an app they already trust. You get naira in your bank. Nobody needs a PayPal account in Nigeria to receive anything.

Feature availability changes, so ask your sender to check PayPal's own help pages for which coins can be transferred from their account and where.

What your sender does

  1. Opens PayPal and goes to the crypto section.
  2. Buys the coin you agreed on, say Litecoin or Bitcoin.
  3. Chooses to send or transfer that crypto to an external address.
  4. Pastes your deposit address for that coin, from your KWIQ wallet.
  5. Confirms. PayPal shows the network fee before they send.

What you do

Before they pay, open the KWIQ app, go to the wallet for the coin you've agreed (Bitcoin, Litecoin or Ethereum), and copy your deposit address. Send it to them along with the coin name in plain words: "Litecoin (LTC) only to this address".

Different coins have different address formats. If you're ever unsure an address matches a coin, paste it into our crypto address checker.

When it arrives, it's credited to your KWIQ wallet once it's confirmed on the blockchain. You choose how much to sell, see the rate and the naira amount, and confirm. Swapping to naira is free, and you can withdraw to any Nigerian bank account.

Which coin to ask for

Coin Good for Watch out for
Litecoin (LTC) Usually low fees and quick confirmations Price moves like other crypto
Bitcoin (BTC) Widely understood, easy for senders Network fees vary with demand
Ethereum (ETH) Works if that's what they hold Fees can be higher at busy times

Whatever you choose, it must be the same coin as your address. Bitcoin sent to a Litecoin address, or the other way round, can be lost.

Avoid PayPal's own dollar stablecoin unless you can find it in the KWIQ app. Only send coins the app lists.

The price can move on the way

Bitcoin, Litecoin and Ethereum aren't stablecoins. Their price can change between the moment your sender buys and the moment you sell. On KWIQ, you get the rate shown when you confirm the sale. Our post on what happens when Bitcoin's price changes during a transfer explains why, and how to keep the effect small: mostly by selling soon after the deposit lands if you need a fixed amount.

Protect yourself

  • Agree the amount in dollars and treat the crypto as the way it's paid.
  • Ask for the transaction ID, not a screenshot, and look it up yourself.
  • Be wary of strangers who "pay via PayPal crypto" for goods. The route is legitimate; scams still use it. Release goods only once the crypto is credited to your wallet.
  • Watch for "overpayments". Someone who sends too much and asks for a naira refund is almost always running a scam.

Other US apps

PayPal isn't the only option your sender might have. Cash App lets US users send Bitcoin to an outside address too; see Cash App Bitcoin to naira. If your sender is comfortable with a regular crypto exchange, USDT is often the simplest choice of all, because it holds its dollar value: our guide for Nigerians abroad sending USDT home works for friends and clients too.

Frequently asked questions

Can I receive PayPal payments directly in Nigeria?

Many Nigerians find their PayPal accounts can send but not receive money. That's why people ask senders abroad to use a different route, such as transferring crypto, which you can then sell for naira.

Which coin should my sender transfer from PayPal?

One that KWIQ supports and that's cheap to send, such as Litecoin or Bitcoin. Ethereum works too but its network fees can be higher. Avoid any coin the KWIQ app doesn't list, such as PayPal's own stablecoin, unless it appears in the app.

Is it safe to accept crypto from PayPal?

The transfer itself is ordinary crypto on a public blockchain. The risk is the person: only accept payments from people you know or genuine clients, and never release goods based on a screenshot.

Does the price change while the crypto travels?

Bitcoin and Litecoin prices can move between sending and selling. The rate that applies on KWIQ is the one shown when you confirm the sale.
