How profit is calculated
- Step 1
Coins bought
Amount invested, minus the buying fee, divided by the buy price.
- Step 2
What you get
Coins bought × sell price, minus the selling fee.
- Step 3
Profit or loss
What you get minus what you invested. Return = profit ÷ amount invested.
- Step 4
Break-even price
The sell price at which you get back exactly what you invested, after fees.
A worked example
Say you invested ₦100,000 when Bitcoin cost ₦100,000,000, with no fees. You bought 0.001 BTC. If you sell when the price is ₦120,000,000, you get ₦120,000: a ₦20,000 profit, or a 20% return. If the price falls to ₦90,000,000, you get ₦90,000: a ₦10,000 loss (−10%).
For today’s real numbers, 1 BTC = ₦111,597,102 on KWIQ today (11 October 2026).
Fees to include
- Selling on KWIQ: Zero fees when you swap crypto to naira; crypto-to-crypto swaps cost 2%.
- Exchange fees: many exchanges charge a percentage when you buy or sell. Enter it as the buying or selling fee.
- Network fees: moving crypto between wallets costs a blockchain fee. It isn’t a percentage, so the calculator leaves it out: subtract it yourself for small amounts.
Use the numbers wisely
A calculator shows what happened or what would happen at a given price; it can’t tell you what prices will do. Many people decide in advance at what price they’ll take some profit, and how much of a fall they can live with. Read how to protect your money when crypto prices swing.
