A report for every month since January 2017 on crypto and the naira in Nigeria: what Bitcoin and ether did in dollars, the Central Bank of Nigeria’s official rate, and the naira’s market rate on Quidax. From May 2021, reports also show what Nigerians did on KWIQ: which coins they sold, crypto against gift cards, where the naira went and the rates KWIQ paid, from anonymised sales, as percentages and rates only.

How we measure

  • Each report covers one calendar month. Prices come from Coinbase, the official rate from the CBN and the market rate from Quidax, which provides KWIQ’s wallets.
  • KWIQ’s own figures come from anonymised sales: percentages, indices and the rates KWIQ actually paid, never amounts, totals or anything about individual users.
  • Payout destinations are grouped into fintech accounts and commercial banks; we don’t publish figures for individual banks.
  • Each report lists anything that makes that month’s figures less precise, such as small samples or what older systems didn’t record.
